Nothing defines the word comfort better than a good mattress, the sector dedicated to its manufacture is always looking for ways to improve the quality of rest offered by their products, innovating in the materials used and the way in which they are manufactured, of the most recent innovations, highlights the mattresses that incorporate the material known as graphene.
What is graphene and what are its applications?
It is characterised as a material with a high conductive capacity for heat and electricity, it is flexible and has a high elasticity, however, it is also a material of high hardness. Another property to highlight is its antibacterial capacity that prevents the growth of bacteria in it.
Thanks to the aforementioned properties, graphene is a material with a multitude of applications, for computers and electronics, batteries, sports equipment such as paddle rackets or defence equipment. And of course its use in the manufacture of mattresses.
What do graphene mattresses look like?
Mattresses that incorporate graphene in their manufacture are called viscografene mattresses, because they add the properties of graphene to the comfort offered by viscoelastic mattresses.
Viscografene mattresses take advantage of the conductive properties of graphene to dissipate the heat produced by the body during sleep. Basically, the areas of the mattress in contact with the body become superconductive areas that help to dilute the heat, affecting the airflow capacity of the mattress and reducing the temperature build-up and cooling it, as if it were a refrigeration system. This improves sleep quality and comfort, especially on hot nights.
The other properties of graphene also bring additional advantages to viscografene mattresses, for example, its antibacterial properties provide insulation against possible bacteria from dust, dirt, lint or particles. Viscografene mattresses are also more resistant than other mattresses, but without losing their ergonomic and elastic properties thanks to the flexibility of graphene.
How do they compare to ordinary viscoelastic mattresses?
Viscoelastic mattresses are very popular and widely used nowadays, under the premise that they provide better rest and comfort compared to normal mattresses.
Its main characteristic is the “memory effect”, which makes the mattress adapt to the shape of the body thanks to the materials it is made of, improving comfort. This effect is particularly beneficial for people who suffer from muscular, joint, neck or back pain; it is in fact one of the main claims of viscoelastic mattresses.
Actually, a viscografene mattress only differs from a viscoelastic mattress by the addition of graphene in its construction, as their names indicate, they are both mattresses with the memory effect of viscoelastic. The difference is the addition of graphene in the composition of the viscografene mattresses, which gives them a series of exclusive characteristics.
It can be said, therefore, that a viscografene mattress maintains the comfort offered by the characteristics of a viscoelastic mattress but with the added benefits of graphene such as thermal relief and antibacterial properties, making it a much more complete product than an ordinary viscoelastic mattress.
